10. December 2019 —

Terme Dobrna has been committed to sustainability for almost 10 years, and we decided to further prove our commitment with certified environment and sustainability labels last year. This year, we received our second Slovenia Green Accommodation Label; Hotel Vita and Hotel Park have now individually received this label, and we are on the right track to obtain it for Vila Higiea.

Terme Dobrna is the oldest active Slovenian thermal spa resort, boasting an extremely rich tradition dating back to 1403, including unspoilt nature, and it is our mission to keep it this way. We have been committed to sustainability for many years, and last year started supporting our business philosophy and lifestyle with certificates. Having received the Slovenia Green Accommodation Label for Terme Dobrna in its entirety in 2018, we started to sustainably develop our business units individually this year; Hotel Vita was the first to obtain the Slovenia Green Accommodation Label, followed by Hotel Park, and we are on the right track to gain this label for Vila Higiea, which is about to be renovated.

The many measures we have taken to increase environmentally-friendly and sustainable operations, awareness and sustainability-related behaviour pattern change in our guests, employees and suppliers, have enabled Hotel Park to be one of the first in Slovenia to gain the international Green Key Certificate and Slovenia Green Accommodation Label, further committing to sustainable operations by signing the Slovenian Tourism Green Policy.

“Sustainable management is the only way to preserve the natural environment and began doing so in 2011 when we adopted our first environmental policy, which is being upgraded and carefully implemented. Globalisation and its unsustainable use of natural resources necessitates sustainable management as this is the only way to preserve our planet for the sake of our offspring,” Leon Tomašić, Director of Terme Dobrna.

Hotel Park, recipient of the Slovenia Green Accommodation Label, located in the direct vicinity of our thermal spring and neat, protected 200-year old spa park, was built in 1872, and has kept its original architectural features despite renovation; many walking and hiking trails start at its entrance; guests can take mountain bike trails to increase their heart rate; and if they wish to visit a more distant local attractions, they can rent ecological electrical cars: Hotel Park’s location is great for everyone wishing to enjoy their free time in a pristine green environment.

Wherever you go, you feel the interweaving of life and nature, as well as a strong connection to local home produce providers: our team takes families and friends to local farms, especially during holidays, where they see how they work, and a beekeeper, where they learn about beekeeping. During the Christmas and New Year period, visitors always receive gifts, such as tea, syrup, soap and other products produced by the nearby Centre for Training and Care’s protégés.

Terme Dobrna’s thermal water’s healing and beneficial properties were admired by the ancient Celts and Romans and many renowned personalities have found something special at Dobrna: author Karl May found inspiration for his work about Winnetou in the peace and quiet of Dobrnica Valley, Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother Louis health for his soldiers in our famous baths.
